Vanessa and Colby title

.~.~. July 2001 .~.~.

The newest addition to Stone Acres Ranch.

An 11 week old black and white potbelly pig, which Debbi chose to name "Vanessa",

not wanting to use my choices of Pork Chop, Bacon or (sausage)Patti.
She wasn't by herself very long, Debbi had to get her a friend whose name is Colby ...

She will, of course, write more later and add a million pictures, be sure to buy stock in Kodak this week...

Vanessa's breakfast...
scrambled eggs, cereal & dog food
(her favorite meal:)

...Vanessa...
her first day at Stone Acres,
with her NEW family

the "new kid on the block":)

Vanessa getting her beauty sleep:)

Vanessa and her new friend, 'Colby' are doing pretty well in adjusting to each other and their NEW home:))) I really do enjoy them:))

When I feed them, they need to be seperated, and it is so cute how Vanessa eats some then takes a drink, then eats more & again takes a drink and so on:))
So proper she is...

Colby just gets down to business:)

Colby is adjusting to his harness, more each day...
it has been quite a challenge!

Vanessa does not scream quite as loud, as she did initially,
when she is picked up....

Thank goodness!! As she has quite a set of lungs, for being sooo tiny:))

Vanessa came to Stone Acres due to a message I received from our local shelter that there was a young potbelly that needed a 'new' home... I had thought about getting a potbelly for sometime...
This was my opportunity:))
She was 'very' small & soooo cute!

I did not realize how much of a problem she had until bringing her home & observing the fact that her hind quarters were very weak... She had great difficulty getting up & down & getting around... I took her directly to my veterinarian (he raises potbellys). There was no definitive diagnosis. We hoped that eventually it could be worked out... I had a 'gut' feeling though, that it would not be ok;( Within 3 days of needing to go back for her booster shots, she prolapsed, for NO apparent reason! This forced me to have to make the decision, that I KNEW was going to happen & that would be in her best interest... But my heart, of course, wanted to keep her! She & Colby had bonded, so i knew i would need to get him another friend, soon...
Sasha is his new friend...
